Fellow MCT Participants and TOC Members,

as the President of the TOC for 2008, I wanted to clarify the situation around Parminder withdrawing from the TOC earlier this year.  As most of you are aware, Parminder served as the Treasurer for the 2007 edition of the MCT and by all accounts dispatched his duties effectively and efficiently.  However, for reasons other than Parminder's performance, we made a change in direction for the 2008 edition.  As you all know, we requested Rajan Gautam to take the duties of Treasurer this year.  We felt that Rajan's guidance and advice would be very helpful in a year where the MCT is trying to get registered as a non-profit organization.  In addition, there were perhaps some personality clashes at key points during the 2007 tournament that, in hindsight, could and should have been avoided.

The TOC, and I personally, value Parminder's enthusiasm, passion and organizational abilities.  None of these were ever in doubt.  However, the reasons for the change were not effectively communicated to Parminder.  He felt, rightfully so, that the TOC had been less than professional in handling this issue.  At this point he chose to remove himself from the organization.

We often hear that the workings of the TOC and the MCT itself have not always been clear to all the participants.  In the past several members have asked for greater visibility into key decisions.  This year, we have made every effort to try and provide updates as often is feasible and necessary.  You have heard of several details of the Nationwide sponsorship agreement and will hear more on additional topics such as Awards, Recognition and All Star.  We felt that the sudden departure of a key member of the TOC is just as important a topic and wanted to share a summary of events with all participants.

Obviously, we continue to strive to make this tournament a better experience for all participants.  This includes getting the tournament registered as a non-profit entity that can and should outlive our individual involvement with the tournament.

Also, we will continue to do our best to make the running of this tournament more inclusive, participatory and democratic to the extent possible.  As part of our ongoing efforts we will continue to solicit volunteers from all participants regardless of location or how long their team has participated in the tournament or whether they made the playoffs or not.

As we get ready to enter the second week of the Div 1 and Div 2 playoffs, we solicit your feedback on the progress of the tournament so far and further ideas for improvement.

Regards,

Vikas Vashisht

All,

on Monday, July 21 a complaint of Roster Breach was filed against GDCC by both their opponent EKUDCC and the NU for the game.  The complaint centered around a player on the GDCC team "Ahmed Alam Khan."  GDCC was not able to produce an ID or prove that Ahmed was on their roster.

The TOC interviewed both teams as well as the NU.  Based on the sequence of events, the TOC has reached the conclusion that there was indeed a roster breach committed by GDCC.  This is a very serious violation and calls for a strict penalty.  By violating the roster rule they have effectively forfeited the game.  It is a shameful situation where a few players have ruined the on-field efforts of the 11 EKUDCC and 9 GDCC players.

As a result, the TOC has decided to award the game between GDCC and EKUDCC to EKUDCC.  EKUDCC will be awarded the two points for the game and any NRR bump that the rules indicate.  GDCC will be penalized 2 points and will NRR points as applicable in the rules.

"Registration for Midwest Cricket Tournament 2008 is now closed. Thanks to all the participating teams for registering in time and welcome to MCT-2008."

The schedule for MCT-2008 will be published on or before Sunday, May 18, 2008. The tournament is scheduled to start on Saturday, May 31, 2008.

COLOR CLOTHING

MCT-2008 will be a complete color clothing & white ball tournament. Participating teams will have the liberty to select their own team colors and designs. There will be no restrictions as long as the uniforms are not white. Please ensure that all the members of your team are dressed in similar colors. Use of regular white Cricket protective equipment will be allowed. Teams can change their team colors in the middle of the tournament if they choose to. Teams will have to bear the cost of color clothing and MCT holds no responsibility for the same.

White clothing will strictly not be allowed for any MCT games.

BALL FEES

Cost of balls to be used for MCT games is going to be the same as past years at $15/ball. This cost will be incurred by the participating teams for all league and Super/Plate level. MCT will bear the cost for all knock out games thereafter. Once the schedule is finalized, teams will be informed about the total ball fees. The balls will be either shipped to the address that you have provided or will be handed over to the team representatives personally before the start of the tournament.

TEAM ROSTER RULES & DEADLINE

Participating teams need to submit their roster of 15 players on or before Sunday May 24, 2008. Teams will be allowed to add 10 more players to their team rosters on or before Sunday, June 15, 2008. If teams would like to add more than 25 players to their rosters, they can do so before the deadline at a cost of $10 per player. Under no circumstances will teams be allowed to modify their rosters after June 15, 2008. The teams will be penalized if any players not on their team roster represent the team in any MCT game thus violating the roster policy. Team rosters need to be emailed before the deadlines to communications@midwestcricket.com along with full name of all players.
